How I optimized my sleep to become a more productive Video Creator

Six years ago, when I started an internship as a Video Editor at a startup company, I instantly (and voluntarily) joined the oh-so-popular “hustle culture” which meant long workdays and short nights.

Why I did that was quite simple; I loved video editing and I saw a super fun job opportunity ahead of me, so I thought (just like many others) that “more working hours” would directly result in “bigger achievements”. Now I know that it’s way more complex than that.

Me living my best life 😄

The more I learned about sleep, recovery, and productivity, the more I realized that I had an unproductive and unhealthy relationship to work. This became even more obvious when I started to freelance as a “Content Creator” three years later. (Trust me, you can only compensate for lack of sleep with coffee to a certain amount. But that’s another article. ☕)️

When you start to freelance, “productivity” becomes even more important than before. As a self-employed, becoming more productive means you can earn more or work less. As an employee, on the other hand, becoming more productive often just means that you get assigned more work (and a potential raise the following year).

It’s also crucial for a self-employed to not make the common mistake of mixing up “productivity” with “effectiveness”…
