When creating an animation in Adobe After Effects, you might want to lock parts of the animation, meaning you want to maintain a certain part of the animation while extending another part.

How to lock/protect parts of an animation

There are different ways of doing this, depending on what part of the animation you want to lock or protect.

First, adjust the work area to the part you want to protect.
Then go up to the menu, click “Composition” and go down to “Responsive Design”. If you click “Create protected region from Work Area”, it will lock the part you have selected. If you click “Create Intro” or “Create Outro” it will automatically detect a part of the start or end of your composition and protect that.

You can adjust these protected areas afterwards by dragging the right handle to change the length of them and dragging the left handle to change the position of them.
